WHAT TO EXPECT:
• The decision to enter should be made between the skater, coach and parents
• The entry forms must be filled out by a certain deadline and the fee to enter is paid to the TBFSC. The TBFSC issues one cheque to the event for all of our skaters.
• The competition schedule is usually posted 1.5 weeks prior to the event
• There is a registration at the rink, at which time flights or groups are posted and music tapes are handed in
• You are responsible for getting your music to the rink, unless your coach tells you otherwise. Your spare tape should always be in your skating bag
• Plan to be in the rink one hour and 15 minutes prior to the start of your event
• Skaters in one event are divided into flights or groups and are judged in that flight
• There is always a warm-up of 5-6 minutes. Often a flight is divided into 2 warm-ups.
• The judging is done by a panel of judges. (3 to 5 judges)
• The mark allotted a skater is of value only in relation to the marks allotted to other skaters. It is the ranking (ordinal) that is important, not the actual value of the mark. The winning skater is the one who receives the majority of first place ordinals.
• Results are posted in the lobby of the rink. They often take a half-hour or so
•The events are judged by volunteers trained to judge the events
