Under the B…10……we are all so familiar with Bingo!  Gone are the days of a smoke filled auditorium and bingo chips. Welcome to the smoke-free world of bingo dabbers!

TBFSC bingoOur skating club is very dependant on Bingo as a fundraiser.  The ice bill we receive from the City of Thunder Bay is quite substantial.  We pay the same full rate as every other ice user.  The fact that we are a not for profit club does not offer any discounts.  Ice costs are our largest expense and the funds we raise from Bingo helps to offset those costs.

For years now, our STARSkater ice (Junior, Intermediate and Senior) has been subsidized with the money made from Bingos.  In the past, we have had enough volunteers for this system to work.  Sadly, in the last few years, we have been short volunteers.  In order to keep our Bingos and the money raised from them – over $20,000.00 a year – it has fallen to our volunteer board members and a few other dedicated volunteers to man the Bingos.

We have calculated that each STARSkater receives $200.00 towards ice fees from the Bingo account.  If you would like to continue to receive an ice subsidy, you much work your share of Bingos.  Each family’s share is 2 Bingos.  You may choose not to work the Bingos and pay full ice fees.  The choice is yours.TBFSC bingo

Our registration forms reflect these options.  You may choose to work 2 Bingos and have your ice time subsidized or you may choose not to work Bingos and pay the full ice fee which works out to an additional $200.00.

We are allotted 2 or 3 Bingos per month.  They are either evening or twilight and run seven days a week, year round.  Volunteering is a great way to meet other skater parents. Time spent volunteering at Bingo qualifies for high school volunteer hours for those teens sixteen or older.

Working at a Bingo is very simple.  We are required to sell bingo cards either on the floor, at the front door or at the side table, call out numbers of winning cards to bingo caller and clean up the tables when the Bingo is finished.
