Club Programs Thunder Bay Figure Skating Club offers a broad spectrum of skating programs from Canskate to Competitive skate. They are offered in a clean, safe and friendly environment. We have some of the best-trained and qualified professional coaches in the region on staff to work with your skater in achieving his or her skating goals. Our programs operate out of the Port Arthur Arena from the beginning of October to the end of March with many events during the year. Our season winds up with our annual ice show, Stars On Ice, in early April. CanSkate (Learn to Skate) The CanSkate program is designed to teach beginner skaters fundamental skating skills, including forward and backward skating, stopping and turning. The program consists of 7 levels. Skaters earn badges as they progresses through these levels at their own pace, as skills are acquired. CanSkate is taught in group format by both Skate Canada professional coaches and program assistants. Events and games are an integral component of these sessions.
For the younger skater we offer a Pre-School program designed for 3-5 year olds with emphasis on fun and skill. More advanced CanSkate participants may move into the Pre-Junior program, which is also conducted by a Skate Canada professional coach in a group format. Skaters in the Can Skate or Pre-JuniorTest programs may move into the STARskate program AT ANY TIME. Please contact a professional coach or board member if you are interested! STARSKATE When a skater is interested in acquiring more advanced figure skating skills, it is time to consider the STARskate program. Skills, Tests, Achievement, Recognition is what the STARskate program stands for. This program offers opportunities for skaters to develop figure skating skills in four different disciplines (Skating Skills, Freeskate, Dance and Interpretive) with the option of taking Skate Canada Tests and participating in club, local or regional competitions. Sessions are divided by test level into Preliminary, Bronze and Silver/Gold. Lessons in the STARskate program are taught by Skate Canada professional coaches in private or semi-private format. Lessons should be booked directly with the professional coach of your choice. Competitive Skate CanSkate or STARskate participants who show potential as competitive skaters can move into Competitive Skate. This program incorporates a series of tests and other training opportunities to help competitors with potential to advance from regional events to provincial or national championships and beyond. Adult Skate We are also pleased to offer an adult skating session for fun and fitness (please note that lessons with a coach are not offered during the adult skate sessions).
